Well, you can also get a multimedia keyboard or a Media Center Extender with
remote control or a 3rd party remote control to give you better "dark room
remote happiness". I have a multimedia keyboard, but use a MCE remote
control myself, and it works just great. It feels one heck of a lot more
natural than lugging my keyboard all around the room. =)
The "space button pause" request has been noted. You'll actually note that
in WMP11 if you have focus on a library item, space button does pause/play.
But as far as generically capturing the space bar command to pause -- that's
probably never going to happen in WMP again... I wrote that up a long time
ago with this text:
If you open up WMP6 (mplayer2), where space bar *did* act as a pause button,
you'll note that you can't use the TAB button to move between any UI
elements. Note that in WMP7 and onwards, there's all sorts of fun stuff to
tab to. The "problem" is that for accessibility reasons (which is required
per http://www.section508.gov , among others), the SPACE button is used to
activate a TABbed to item. So: yeah, no space button pause/play: it's
simply not terrifically sane to be capturing that event which is so
important to other factors.
mplayer2.exe is still on your system.

I have had it with the new "improvements". Programers are constantly taking
away all the features that common people use (nerfing) their programs and
adding stuff that most people don't use. Then they have the nerve to call
it
an improved version. If the program can't do everything that the old
program
can do (and just as simply & easily), then it is a nerf, period.
I want the standard keyboard commands in my media player(like spacebar to
pause, arrow keys to control the volume). I don't see why we have to deal
with all the multi-key button commands. I mean I can't even dim the lights
to
enjoy the media in a dark setting, cause I have to have a light (shining
in
my eyes) on the keyboard to be able to hit the multi-key commands....the
mouse is too slow and don't allow maxitmized screens.
I want to be able to open multiple media players and play different clips
at
the same time.
I.E. I want a simple media player (no skins, just max viewing and simple
well placed controls) like MS media player 5.1. Anyone know where I can
get
this version ....or know something that works as well (please don't
mention
those "great" players that don't have 1 button, easy to reach keyboard
commands or that can't open multiple sessions at that same time).
Thanks!
.
