Tony,
Thank you very much! Sounds like with my 1GB RAM 1798 MHz AMD x86 chip, I
will be able to get the better GUI with this new offering, which was what I
was really after in the first place. Always makes me nervious when I see
"System Requirements" that I don't meet (64MB video) which should really say
"for HD". Thanks again. I might give it a try after all.

equipment, there more for playing higher definition content.
If one were to use WMP 11 as just an mp3/cd player, all you would need is
the bare minimum, a 1mb video card, and an old 16 bit sound card.
the higher the quality of audio and video files you want to play, you will
need the better video and sound card to play them on.
of 4 machines here, 3 are p3's all with 512mb ram (500, 600, 800 mhz) (one
with a TNT2 32mb, 2 with geforce 4's 32mb),
all 3 have a creative pci 16bit sound card, they play standard quality divx
movies fine and cd's and mp3's just as well as my p4 1gb ram with a geforce
4 128mb, with an integrated soundmax audio card.
it really just depends on what you want to play on it, determines what
hardware you need, pretty much the same would go for any player if you
wanted higher def content.
but of course, you need the physical ram to run the thing, a good 512mb is
always recommended these days for any situation. the more the better for
these memory hungry apps. (that would be where the requirements may drive up
sales lol)

Tony,
Kinda in the same vein, reading the Release Notes for WMP11B for XP, it
says
you need 64MB video ram! Not being a gamer, 32MB has worked well for me.
Then
add to that the sound card upgrades(recommended) looks like we are being
driven to purchase more equipment. Considering the WMP11B for XP
"download"
has now hit the streets, I would think the traffic on this forum will
increase.
If you don't know the answers, perhaps an Moderator will see this post and
offer advise. Perhaps, you can run WMP11(B) but with limited features OR
just
plain out of luck unless you "upgrade your equipment".
Thanks

Still trying to figure out what the meaning of IS is.

Now, I'm not up on everything to do with MCE, not sure why they don't
allow
WMP11 to be installed on anything prior to 2005. (seems stupid if you ask
me, as all it is customized XP Pro)
But you defiantly wouldn't have to buy a new computer to use WMP11.
Just install WIN MCE 2005, or Windows XP Home/Pro SP2. I know that's
easier
said then done. Perhaps Dell might have an upgrade somewhere?
Sorry to be of little help, just letting you know it has nothing to do
with
the PC, and you don't need a new one itself.

I bought a tricked-out Dell last year with Windows Media Center 2002 on
it.
I've since upgraded the Windows OS as best I can, but Windows Upgrade
won't
throw me MCE 2005 or anything else like that that will let me run
WMP11.
What
do you suggest? I'm dying to try out this hot new edition of WMP and I
shouldn't have to buy another new computer to do it, right?
