Re: WMP 10 Does Not Sound Good

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I'm very thankful for all the help and links, but I do not have the time,
and usually not the expertise, to assist the folks in these forums like some
of you do...So to say, "You get out what you put in" is unfair to the many
people that need a little help every now and then.

A: Try turning off the EQ, actually.

Define "good"? That's a value judgment. I am not familiar with Showtime
but I suspect it has an equalizer turned on by default that is
configured to your liking. You can enable WMP's equalizer as well.

Another measurement of good is the ability of the media player to
process the sound accurately and without distortion. But that, too,
could be hampered by EQ; the equalizer or other audio effects like SRS
could be enabled and misconfigured on WMP and producing undesirable
results.

Otherwise, a sampled waveform is a sampled waveform and the media player
chosen should have no relevance but for post-processing effects such as
equalizer and SRS.

Hi Jon,

WMP has a somewhat distorted, fuzzy sound to it. I have checked the items
that you mentioned, but the only thing I am running is the EQ....Nero
Showtime has no such adjustment to it, to the best of my knowledge. I
have played with the audio settings in WMP, but I can't seem to make it
sound much better, and I have it set at the highest quality settings too.
I had this problem before I reinstalled XP Home, and I am still having
the same problem after the reinstall.

Nero Showtime has a nice smooth, distortion free sound to it.

Regards
