Audio CD burning

I've burned plenty of data disks with no problems, but I'm trying to
burn my first audio cd, and I'm getting a problem I haven't experienced
before.
What appears to be happening is that the CD is being closed before
anything is ever burned. I've checked the blank CD-R before I start,
and it tells me the disk has over 700 MB of free space. I set up the
playlist for burning, and it tells me I have 80 minutes of space
available on the CD. It inspects all the files, no problem. It begins
burning (or so it says), and part of the way through, it tells me I
can't burn anything to the CD because there's no room. When I check
the disk properties, it tells me that there are 0 bytes of used space
and 0 bytes of free space.
Originally, I was doing other thing while it burned, but a co-worker
said that might have screwed up the burn, so I didn't do ANYTHING this
time while it was burning. I had been using the "fastest speed"
setting, but this last time, I tried lowering it to 48x. The same
thing is happening every time. I've lost 4 blank CD-R discs now, and I
don't want to lose any more until I know what's going on.
The computer is brand new (as of December) and has Windows XP and
Windows Media Player 10. I've also tried using Sonic Record Now, which
also came with the computer, but the exact same thing happened.
What setting is it I need to adjust or steps do I need to take to make
this work right?
Thanks,
Brad Pardee
