This newsgroup was superseded by the newsgroups
    microsoft.public.win32.programmer.directx.video and
    microsoft.public.win32.programmer.directx.audio several years ago. They
are the appropriate groups for DirectShow video and audio questions.

microsoft.public.win32.programmer.directx.video and . audio are MSDN
    managed newsgroups. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroups/managed/ for
    details.

    Microsoft also added microsoft.public.win32.programmer.directx.managed for
DirectX/DirectShow .NET and managed code questions when DirectX 9 was
released. Just to add to the confusion, it is not an MSDN managed
newsgroup (managed refers to two different things).

I recommend you repost your question to the appropriate newsgroup listed
    above so that we don't get the cross-posting / multi-posting /
multi-answering problem that happens as a result of having multiple
newsgroups and a retired newsgroup for the same technology. Of course,
you are under no obligation to heed my advice. The purpose of my
recommendation is to streamline the answers in the most active Microsoft
newsgroups and to make you aware of the MSDN managed newsgroups if you are
    an MSDN subscriber.

    General tips:

    - the main DirectX site is http://www.microsoft.com/directx

    - the main MSDN Library site for DirectShow is

    ttp://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/directx9_c/directx/htm/directshow.asp

    - often the fastest way to find an answer to your question is to search on
Google Groups which keeps a complete archive of most newsgroups
    (http://groups.google.com)

    - the most relevant Google Groups archive for DirectX Video programming is
    http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&c2coff=1&safe=off&group=microsoft.public.win32.programmer.directx.video

    - a good introductory book for DirectShow is
    http://www.microsoft.com/MSPress/books/6381.asp
