Have a go in Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager, at removing
the hardware.
Disconnect the phone or player, shutdown WMP, remove the phone/player
from device manager, then plug it all back in, and see if it's
detected once you've reinstalled the driver software

Okay,------------------------------------------------
I have a GPX MP3 player and LG cell phones and for some reason they stopped
syncing to my pc. I have no new hardware, no viruses, trojans, spyware,
adware, or malware.
When I connect them to my pc the little box always pops up and asks if I
want to view files, play music etc. But when ever WMP 11 comes up the player
does not show up at all anymore
Yes they did always show up and sync whenever I connected them to my pc
I am using Windows Vista Home Premium
Now they do not show up and they will not sync

I tried this exactly as you said yet it did not work for me at all. My mp3
player is now not even showing up at all for me to attempt to sync.
Do you have all of the syptoms described by Phil, which were :
"I once could but now cannot:
1. connect to either my Zen mp3 or my LG Chocoalet 3
2. Rename or update album or song information
sync, of course with either above device"
And do you have a Zen MP3 or LG Chocolate 3 phone, like Phil does ?
If not, we'd better start again as you're probably describing a
different scenario or problem. In fact it' wou;d be best to staret by
describing the problem, then we can work from there, rather than in
reverse ;-)

You are a genius. Removing and rebuilding the data base did the job with all
the problems. Now I am wondering if, because many of my music files are on a
removable HD the problem comes when I disconnect it????

I thouhgt I made it clear that neither device shows up -- on this machine
Not really, at least not explicitly ;-)
only -- in the synce tab, although, when I hook each up it shows briefly on
the bottom margin of WMP as "Zen detected" or "LG detected" but not as the
icno in the upper right corner. So nothing can be synched because it isn't
activated.
OK so it shows but "vanishes" ?
What happens if, with WMP running, you now physically disconnect the
device cable, then reconnect it - does the device reappear then stay,
or disappear again ?
If it reappears, try to select the dropdown below the Sync tab, choose
<device name> and End Sync Relationship from there.
If none of this works, your media library database *may* be hosed.
That could possibly explain the CD info issue too...
ZachD has instructions on how to delete that here :
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#medialibrary or at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925718
You'd then have to press the F3 key to re-scan all your media and add
the data to a new copy of the library
