MOV wont play with Quicktime....can I play with Media Player?

I recorded video on my camera. Nikon puts video into MOV format. grrrrrrrrr
1. I suspect the answer is no......But does anyone know of a way to have the
camera put the video files in MPG or WMV format to start with?
****************
The exact same MOV files will not play on my computer, but will play on
other computers when I copy them with a memory stick. (And I do have the
latest version of Quicktime and Windows Media Player.) I tried various codec
packages and downloading Nikon support software. And the video still plays
all scrambly with pink and green blobs all over the screen.
2. So the real question is......Is there a way to play MOV with Windows
Media player? Or maybe convert MOV into MPG or WMV?
3. The less prefered route is.....Quicktime is crap, but is there a way to
fix it?
Thanks so much!!!
