Re: Error message trying to download

What's the UI that leads you to think that the player installation has
failed? But if you're referring to Windows 2003, you're referring to things
outside of a player update, so this may be the wrong venue for your
concerns. =\

none - I think my problem is far greater WMP.

I can not apply any updates on any machine in the domain. (I am the
domain
admin) One post I saw said remove the machine from the domain and apply
the
updates. I did and it worked. I put the machine back into the domain,
and
then it failed again.

The errors that I get seem to indicate that I don't have the privileges to
apply updates. I also tried to log on as the local admin account - still
could not apply updates. The problem is on Win-XP, Win-XP 64, Win 2003,
and
Win 2003 64 machines. (At least it is consistent!) I am beginning to
think
the problem is in the domain controller and the problem flowed down to the
other machines on the network.

OK, what lines with "ERROR:" in them are listed in c:\windows\wmsetup.log
?

Note that you can probably walk through this faster via

I am having the same problem - my downloads work but the installations
failed. I originally tried applying the updates with a domain admin
account.
I then logged on locally with a local admin account. I verified that
the
account is in the admin group and that "Administrors" group has the
"Manage
audinting and security log" privilege.

My updates worked before (last month) but now I am having this problem
on
a
number of machines. I don't know if it matters but, a number of the
machines
are running under VmWare.

Can you download to a unique directory?
Are you getting this error trying to download it or trying to install
it?

I get this error message every time I try to install WMP11. I own my
own
personal computer and there are no other users or networks to which
it
belongs. I am the only system admin and there is only one account on
this
pc.
Therefore I doubt the error is admin rights related. Unfortunately I
have
no
clue what is causing it since I've tried everything I can think of
(disabling
all other running programs, disabling all firewall/virus
pro/anti-spyware,
creating a new admin account, removing and reinstalling WMP10).
Anyone
help
would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, that's what I guessed you left out of your original message

It means that the IT dept have locked the machine from certain or
all
software installation. Best buy that 12-pack of beers for em now
;-)

there is one similar post - but that one doesn't have a definitive
answer
either. It looks to be administrative rights related. I'll have
to
beg
IT
for a fix. Thought I'd find something here. Thanks.
