Re: ASF stream format

You could start to consider using DirectShow or windows media format 9
- 11 SDKs and at that point I'd refer you to the newsgroup
microsoft.public.windowsmedia.sdk for assistance, because that's
outside my area of expertise.

The SDK documentation can be downloaded from here :

Thanks,
Suppose I want to do it myself, can my own filter simply eliminate some
packets from the ASF stream, or should it be with some embedded header
packets or in some other way?

I experiment a little with ASF streamed video. In a typical scenario a
server transmits a atream to a client - like Windows Media Player.
Suppose I
put some "filter" between them, that manages to parse the ASF data blocks
from the server TCP packets, eliminate some complete DATA blocks (usually
start with $D) and retransmit the rest blocks again to the client. Would
the client accept it gracefully. i.e just displaying some jump, but not
crashing or stop receiving the stream?

It should work. You can do this with some "filter" called VideoLAN
player, which will accept an mms or http ASF stream and rebroadcast
(or archive it) to a third client : http://www.videolan.org/

The more it looks like http progressive download, in general the more
reliable the results will be across player versions.
