Firefox - no progressive download

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

I'm linking directly to a WMV file (not embedding it into an html
page) like <a href="http://myserver.com/somepath/video.wmv";>Watch
this</a> . The server isn't doing anything to stream it, it's just
serving up the file.

In IE, WMP is launched and the video begins playback immediately
(progressive download i guess).

In Firefox, WMP is launched but before playback begins, Firefox
downloads the entire file.

In both cases, the request is passed off to WMP, so why the
difference?
.
