If file->open doesn't play the track, then there is more wrong than file
association.
What happens when you double-click the track? What program opens it?
To check/reset the file associations, you can open the File Association and
Defaults applet from the start menu or, if not shown there, in the Add/Remove
programs control panel applet.
Have you uninstalled JetAudio? I would do so and retest.
As a sidebar, one of the great things about Vista is that you can create a
standard user and that user cannot install programs that will effect system
functionality like sound. While versions since Windows 95 have technically
supported that, Vista has made it so reliable and easy that it is really
usable.
I suggest creating standard accounts for children, grandchildren, nieces and
nephews. Then when they try to install something, they will get a User
Account Control popup that you would have to enter your password or they
could not install things like JetAudio.
Let us know what happens after you uninstall JetAudio - one way or the other.

Hi Dale,.
My nephew tells me that he installed Jet Audio but can't remember if it
was working before that or not.
It could certainly be a file association problem but using File/Open ,
rather than a double click on the file, still does not play a WMA file.
I've seen web comments that suggest a re-do of file associations for
these - what do you think?

Something else is wrong here. Windows Media Player and Vista come ready to
play all three of those formats. What other audio tools or applications have
been added?
Has this condition existed since the computer was new or has something else
changed coincident with this problem?

Need some help in getting codecs for these - mp3, wma, and wmv files.
We are running Vista and WMP 11 and there is NO AUDIO.
AVI, MPEG, and WAV files play just fine so it seems the player is fine
and we think codecs are missing.
What do we need and where to get them - going to the MS Vista KB really
does not show anything.
Thanks, Fred
