Hi -
I am having the SAME problem. I open any file from any location (my hard
drive, desktop, email, web, various websites and servers, etc.
When I click on the file, it opens Windows Media Player and immediately
gives me an error that reads "Windows Media Player cannot access the file.
The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the
file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct." There are 2
buttons as options: close or webhelp.
If I choose webhelp, I get all different errors (depending on the direction
of the wind and the suns intensity for the day). I do get error codes like:
"You've encountered error message C00D11D2 while using Windows Media Player.
The following information might help you troubleshoot the issue. Cannot
access the file" OR "You've encountered error message C00D11B1 while using
Windows Media Player. The following information might help you troubleshoot
the issue. Cannot play the file".
As you can see, the error codes will vary; but, the program will not work.
I have done enough research to feel safe to assume these are 'codec' errors.
Unfortunately, that does not provide a solution.
I have attempted to update the sound driver, etc; however, any other program
can use the sound just fine.
Can you recommend a solution??
