Same issue with me.
I just bought some songs and put them in my library then right clicked and
selected album info. It found the album bought wouldnt update. I thought it
was the songs so I ripped some CDs in WMA format and samething. When you
search for album info it finds it but when you update no go.

I have WMP11
Windows Vista Ulti 64bit.

I just observed this about a week or so ago.

Bill, I must not have been clear in my quesiton so I will ask in another way:

Was your content created using Windows Media Player or was it created using
some other application. The format doesn't matter, what does matter is what
created the content. That's the distinction I'm trying to ascertain.

To all the other people on the thread, are you also using content that was
created using some other program?

This is important because of the metadata that gets inserted into the file's
header. WMP puts an album identification that the online metadata service
uses to say what album the track belongs with. As far as I know, other CD
ripping software doesn't put this string into the content.

If you want to read up on this album identification information here's a
link: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb263072.aspx

Anyway, as I was saying, I need to know if you used WMP or some other
application to create the content. This is important because you get a
different set of pages for non-WMP created content.

Of course your's would be WMP. Mine is all MP3. And I used the advanced tag
editor to alter some information.

Try it with MP3.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Bill,

I don't have an "Advanced Details" button in my find album info wizard
however I have an Edit button and any changes I make to the album information
is applied correctly, both to the library and the file itself (including a
file rename). But then again, all my content is ripped in WMP. Are you
using content from some other source?

If you are using other source content, then maybe that's why I'm unable to
see what you're seeing. But before I go off on a wild goose chase for files
not ripped by WMP, I need to make sure that's what you and everyone else is
using.

This isn't a firewal issue. On Thursday night as I was cleaning up my
collection is was working and then it wouldn't. No software changes, nothing.

Ok. Try this. Go to an album that you have that's ok. right click on a
song and find album info. If it is found (and many times not - unlike
before), click on album details. Did you get the "check back later note"?

Now, try changing the song info like track, and put an "01 -" in front of
the song title. Now search for it. Strange matches?

ok use the refine your search to remove the "01 -" and locate the song. Now
find it. Click ok. It doesn't update the title (in the MP3) or any of the
other info.

Now. I rebuilt the my Media Player database as you suggested. No help. It
works exactly the same way on all of my computers. One laptop (window xp
media edition) one XP Profession, One XP home. And it does it on different
networks.

Now what? Thanks for your help.

Bill
