to be something with Vista and/or WMP.

If thedrivecanburn toCD-R with iTunes then we know for sure the
hardware is working correctly, and theproblemis with the other
programs.

For Media Player, I would recommend reinstalling and/or updating it to
the latest version. From the sounds of it, theCDwriting portion of
the program is probably corrupted and needs to be reinstalled. If you
uninstall the program, restart the computer (so the potentially bad
registry entries are removed) and then reinstall it you will probably
get better results.

If thedriveused to work you could use System Restore (start >
programs > accessories > system tools > system restore) to change the
Windows configuration back to a setting that worked. Unfortunately, if
theproblemis due to missing or corrupt files then System Restore will
not help as it only deals with the Registry and Configuration settings
and not the actual files on the harddrive.

The absolute worst case fix would be doing either a repair install or
new install of Windows itself (although going that far should not be
necessary).

I too am having this problem - also with a Dell and XP.

I know I have written CDs in the past, and my Drive is happy reading
Music and Data CDs and DVDs, but I've now tried all of the options to
write, Sonic, Media Centre, and straight windows copying - bt all fail
after appearing to copy with a message similar to that reported above.
I've gone throough abou 10 CDs trying to get it to work.....

Any help (especially specific to Dell) would be appreciated.

Phil
