Re: stream live content online

im sorry for the inconsistencies between my first and last posts.. i was
using port 8080 when i first made this post and because i've read articles
that port 8080 is commonly used by other services and that a different port
should be used, i changed port to 1121.. also my lan ip during that time was
192.168.1.100, now it changed to 192.168.1.101 because my router is set to
dynamically assign ip's (dhcp) and i've already rebooted my computers since.
the diagram on my previous post should summarize how everything is currently
set up on my home network..

i am certain that my friend and i both have the same public ip and we
cross-checked on different sites.. my isp is different than regular dsl or
cable connections. they use motorola's wireless broadband solutions:

http://motorola.canopywireless.com/

the current setup for my isp is much like having a single network for each
areas. for example, since me and my friend are in close proximity, i assume
we're assigned the same network.. to the internet, we are both identified as
203.x.x.x but when we do "ipconfig /all" we get a class c ip address. in my
case, if i remove the router and directly connect to the isp, i get the
following:

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.251.244
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.224.0

it's much like having a home network, but in a larger scale. im not a
networking expert but i do have a little background on networking and i think
the proper networking term used here is NAT, where multiple hosts use the
same ip address to access the internet?? if that is so, how do i stream live
content while on a NAT?

thanks again :)

According to the diagram, you're port forwarding port 1121 external,
to port 1121 at the internal PC (let's say 192.168.1.101 according to
the diagram).

Yet your first post states you are running the encoder on port 8080.
Is it possible you could summarise them consistently?

There's also a possibility the IP address changes between reboots of
the PC or router, depending on ISP. In that case you'd have to update
your web page each time this happens. The IP addres is very unlikely
to change while the router remains "on", however.

What's certain is you and your friend cannot both have the same public
IP address, as they must be unique per network interface - otherwise
his data would come to your PC and vice-versa.

So perhaps cross-checking on www.whatismyip.com that the IP address is
correctly detected might be a good idea.

yes neil, that is not the ip im getting from checkip.org. that is my lan ip
on the encoding pc. i was trying to avoid to mention my public ip.. my public
ip is in the range 203.x.x.x

here's an illustration of how things are currently set up;

http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/2075/configrz6.jpg

it works when i access the stream through:

http://192.168.1.101:1121

but it does not work when i access it through

http://203.x.x.x:1121

what i'm suspecting is that my isp's susbribers on this area all have the
same ip address because as i mentioned in the previous post, a friend i was
talking to is getting the same 203.x.x.x ip as i do. when i removed my router
and made a direct connection on one of my pc's to the isp, the ip address im
getting is:

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.251.244
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.224.0 -- take note of the subnet
mask

which is weird because im no longer in a lan.

thanks!

That *cannot* be the address given by checkip.org because 192.168
addresses are by definition private IP address range, and cannot be
routed over the internet.

Replace the 192.168 address with that reported by checkip.org
