Your response proves my point. IE supports gopher but there are no systems using it. If that is the case then WMP should definitely support mms because there are thousands of sites using it.
I don't have to worry about punch tape or punch cards. Systems don't use them. Systems DO use mms.

I think IE still supports Gopher protocol.

There's a definite period where it doesn't make sense to support older
protocols any more. When was the last time you used a punched tape
machine ? For me it was over 20 years ago...
