Did you pay for that support? It is totally amazing that the product support team would send you here for technical support on Windows Media Player because, according to one former senior member of the Windows Media Player product team, newsgroups are pretty useless for support.
And more importantly, did the Microsoft support rep express an apology that you are having problems with Windows Media Player? Because - for many problems, that apology is the best you are going to get for your money.
What is the URL of one of the files you cannot get to stream? The Windows Media Player product team dropped support for the mms protocol without regards to the thousands of sites that have content with that protocol and leaving it fully in the hands of the customers of those sites (who happen to also be customers of the Windows Media Player product team) to investigate and report the solution to the content providers. That solution is to change the links to the mms protocol streams to http and enable http on their streaming servers.

I get a message dialog: "... this protocol is not supported, ...". Either
that or get nothing and WMP-11 sits there doing nothing. It's pretty
consistent.
I asked for support from Microsoft. One of their reps logged into my machine
but couldn't see anything wrong and sent me here.
I'd rather use WMP-10 or 9 or any player that works. I can't see the
advantage of using WMP-11. Vista won't allow to uninstall WMP and won't allow
to install any previous version. That's pretty lame if you ask me.
I upgraded to Vista with great expectations. Now I regret it. My life was
actually simpler with XP.

Hang in there Bill, I'm having similar problems. My internet radio stations
direct me to 'page can not be displayed' page instead of streaming. Is this
what you get?
