You probably need to update the drivers for your video card. Right-click on My Computer (or on Computer if you have Vista) and choose Properties->Hardware->Device Manager.
Expand the Display Adapters node and then right-click on your adapter and choose Update Drivers. Let the update wizard search the Internet.
If that doesn't get all the tabs then go to the website for your display adapter chipset and download the latest drivers from them and install in your PC.

i cannot find my display adapters folder.
i am quite good with computers. but my son has done something to my toshiba
laptop.
i am unable to play a dvd as an error message comes up with Create Overlay
failed. lower colour or screen resolution. i have contacted my son who has
the exact same laptop. he has more options than i do to change things in
display.
