Re: Music File Tags

Well, that is just nice. What i meant by buying iTunes, I meant by
downloading, which I did today, and found out that the software is hard to
manage, and I just left it alone. I will get to the ID3 tag website you
gave, and see what I can learn there.

UPDATE: I just read the website's info, and it applies to only MP3. But my
problem is with WMA sound format. I have these songs from various games,
from which I made a CD, and then Ripped it to my library with Media Player 11
on WMA file format. And I made an Album Art and pasted it to the CD I
ripped. And then I changed and made a new one, and pasted it over, and for
some reason, the Media Library kept the FIRST album I pasted on the first
track of the CD. No matter how many times I tell the Library to REMOVE the
first album art I pasted on the album first, IT just won't remove it. A fair
guess, is that I will have to delete the whole album, then rip it again, this
time on MP3 and then fill in the blanks.

The reason I chose WMA over MP3 is because WMA would rip over 320kbps, which
makes it a good quality over the maximum 198kbps available on MP3 under the
Media Player. I would rip all my music on WAV, but they have really poor
file tags.

And yes, the Media Player team should be open to suggestions, and bug
reporting.

Any other application that does the same thing that Windows Media Player
does?? Besides iTunes, Winamp, RealOne (also called RealPlayer,) PowerDVD,
WinDVD or many other Multimedia players out in the market? It is so
frustrating that Microsoft is running their OWN little monopoly with the
Media Player, and really just not being right over it. And just offering
little, to none support over it.

Also, for like next version of the Media Player, a Surround Sound Plug-in
like Cyberlink's PowerDVD offers on their player? It would be nice to use
Windows Media Player with its own surround sound decoding plug-in.

But of course, IT would be too much to ask for such a multibillionaire
company to do more to satisfy their customers.

According to NBC, Microsoft spent over 6$ billions to create Vista, which
would be installed over 100 Billion PCs worlwide. Little math 1*100=100. So
with my little math, Microsoft would be making around 100$ Billion if they
sold their Software at
1 buck. But their software ranges from 49.99$-399.99$ at the most, and that
is only for Vista. Imagine for Office, Windows Server Editions, and their
range of other software and Hardware sold at this time.

How can I TOTALLY REMOVE any information that is tagged on a music file?

Move the file outside of the monitored folders of WMP, remove any ID3 tags
using my ID3 Tag Backup program at
http://www.dalepreston.com/Blog/2007/01/removing-id3-tags.html. Now when
you move the files back, WMP won't know what album they are from or what the
tracks are and it won't associate them with the original entries in the WMP
database.

It looks like Windows Media Player 11 does not have such feature, and YES
it
should. I need to remove some album art that keeps getting tagged to a
file,
and NO matter what I TELL the program to do, it won't leave the file
alone.
So I think that a file tag remover should be a sweet thing to have handy.

The images don't get "tagged to" the file. What do you mean by "tagged to"?
The images get stored in the folder and associated with the file. Other
metadata gets stored in the WMP library database files (see
http://www.zachd.com/pss/pss.html#medialibrary) and some metadata gets
stored in ID3 tags (see http://www.id3.org). Images only get stored in the
tags if you drop the image on the icon in WMP 11 or if you use ATE to add
the image to the ID3 tag.

Vista has the option to remove certain entries on files, but that DOESN"T
remove all the information I would like to remove from music files.

Nope

When will Windows Media Player 11 have such feature?

Probably never. Zach could probably say more reliably but it is my guess
that it's not an often requested feature. People generally want to know
what their files are rather than wanting to not know what their files are.

Also, the media player has a LOT of bugs in the file tagging area, that
really makes me gag, and RUN to the next computer store to get the iTunes,
but then I remember that that PROGRAM SUCKS also.

Good luck finding iTunes at a computer store unless you buy an iPod that
includes an iTunes disk. Or a wireless store that includes a phone like my
Motorola SLVR that pretends to be an iPod. At 2.35 a gallon for gasoline
(assuming you're in the United States) save your money and just download
iTunes from Apple if you want it.

I would like to see that feature added at least on the Media Player for
Vista, and the rest of the bugs fixed.

Unfortunately, the Windows Media Player product team has chosen not to
provide a feedback mechanism by which their customers can report bugs or
suggest features. You're just out of luck on this one.
