I disagree. As much as I think there is a lot of room for improvement in
WMP, it is still the best player for Windows.
The only thing I like iTunes for is that it uses CDDB which is a somewhat
more accurate database than the Microsoft/AMG piece of doo-doo. So I use
iTunes for ripping.
And then have to manually change their stupid and obsolete ID3V2.2 tags to a
supported version - ID3V2.3.
I have to fix file names because, for whatever reason, iTunes truncates file
names to 40 characters regardless of path length.
iTunes implementation of album art makes me love WMP 11's in comparison.
And that silly wannabe portable device emulation for the current track
information at the top with its scrolling/cyclical data representation even
on a 1280x1024 screen.

These are all valid points. Windows Media Player doesn't quite rival the.
likes of Itunes 7 but it is a big improvement to WMP10 in terms of interface,
but there are performance issues definetly

But you do it all by clicking the pretty pictures so that means it is

Another thing is the cumbersome way of looking at music by album and/or
artist. In WMP10, I just expand the artists list in the left side bar, then
click the artist I want (and expand to select a specific album if I wanted).
It was easy to piece together a Now Playing list. In 11, if I remember
correctly (I rolled back to 10 a couple months ago), you have to go through
the list in the central frame, then keep going back and forth to select
different albums and/or artists.

No Luke, you're right, this really is an atrocious piece of software. I
really hate it, and I am definitely not upgrading to Vista as long as WMP11
remains an integral part of it.
The search results replacing the now playing list is enough to drive you
insane, and if you are ever trying to play a song from one of your own
playlists as part of 'all music' using the find in library, forget it. It is
only shown in album view in the library, meaning if you try to start it, only
that album will play. Switch to the song view, and suddenly WMP has
completely forgotten what you were looking for.
A sub-standard and poorly thought through program. I recommend avoiding it
like the plague.
