I would like to add subtitles for some wmv videos that can be turned on or
off in WMC(vista) and media extender.

Is it there an app that will convert srt or sub format subtitles to a format
suitable for wmv files?

You could try this, I'm not sure if it'll work out :
http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=897842

The problem you need to solve is coverting to a format which WMP and
WMC / MCE support. WMP natively handles SAMI subtitle files, which is
closely related to HTML. There are decoder plugins for Subripper files

However I have no idea what WMC uses for subtitles, if anything, and
it's desparately unlikely extenders have recognised support for
subtitles, it seems to be a minority concern.

So I think even if you could get the .srt to play in WMP, or convert
it to SAMI, you may be no closer to reaching your goal of playback on
the other platforms.
