Re: Problems with Subtitles

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Have you given up? I wondered what software you use to decode the DVD's? I
know they play in WMP, but MS (to my knowledge )don't provide the decoding
software themselves, so do you know which software is decoding?

I don't have the problem, I'm usin WMP 11 and decoding software from either
nVidia or Cyberlink (Power DVD).

It might have nothing to do with your problem, but I was just wondering...

Hi Raymond,

Your correct, use show signs wasn't ticked. I tried de-installing and then
restalling but still didn't work. I've given up. I'm not going to both
anymore. So fed up with it.

Thanks anyway,.

Hi Anne,

You go to the Control Panel and double click on the "Accessibility
Options"
icon. I could only see this icon by setting the folder options that is
under
the Tools menu to "Use Windows Classic folders". I then went to the sound
tab and then you have the option there called "Use ShowSounds". This
supposably will display captions/subtitles in WMP if it is ticked. Have
only
read about it and have not tested it because WMP always displays the
subtitles. I may be able to test it if I can get rid of these
subtitles!!!
I uninstalled Version 11 as it seemed to screw up my Digital TV card. I
am
now back to Version 9 and it is still displaying the subtitles. Like you,
it
is driving me nuts. I found that when I check to see whether the "Use
ShowSounds" option was selected, that it wasn't, so you may find the same.
I
have tried searching the web with no success to the subtitles problem. I
may
just have to use another player and give up on WMP, if I can't find a
solution soon.

Regards,
Raymond.

I have the same problem. I have tried everything that Anne has
done, including checking to see that the sound accessibility option was
not
selected. There must be a bug with WMP as I also have PowerDVD and it
does
not display subtitles in it. I have been getting this problem since
Version
9 and upgraded to Version 10 hoping it would fix the problem but
didn't.
I
thought Version 11 might have fixed it, but sadly not! Are there any
Microsoft gurus out there with any ideas what might be causing this
problem?
I would prefer to use WMP instead of PowerDVD to watch DVDs.

Regards,
Raymond.

Yeah, of course i have, it was one of the first things i tried
however,
doesn't work. I also tried going into tools, options and closed
captions
but
still it doesn't work. was on the phone to my technical help dept for
about
1 hour but he gave up and said to try microsoft. Searched site but
can't
find anything.

I can switch the subtitles on and off when using PowerDVD or Media
Center
but when i try and switch off subtitles through Windows Media Player
it
doesn't switch then off. Any DVD that I play; automatically plays with
subtitles.

My technical dept asked me to download Windows Media Player 11
however,
subtitles still can't be switch off.

It wouldn't both me so much but I do think that Windows Media Player
is a
better quality picture so would prefer to use it.

I'm slowly giving up however, this is a comptuer which is about a week
old
now and it bothers me that i can't get the subtitles switched off.

aaaaaahhh

I am grateful for the reply and if you can think of anything else i
would
be
grateful. It is really puzzling me. I can't sit by my computer without
trying to fix it.

Have you tried switching off subtitles on the acctual DVD options.

For example when you boot up the cd. go in to seetings, instead of
clicking
play on the acctual dvd welcome screen.
