Re: Unable to Burn CDs in WMP 11 - Insert a blank CD

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

I have the same problem. Apparently my driver, on a two year old Sony
Vaio, isn't designed to recognize the Windows XP, although that is the
solfware that came with the system. Now how do I fix the problem to
burn my CDs and downloaded WMA files? Thanks David

I have the same problem. Since I downloaded the final release (upgraded
from 10) of 11, I've not been able to burn CDs.

My left pane shows:
No Disc (O:)
No Disc (P:)

The upper right corner of Burn screen shows:
CD Drive (O:)
Audio CD
Insert a blank CD

For test purpose, if I insert a music CD, it says:

CD Titlte Here (O:)
No Disc (P:)

So, it recognizes the media change.

If I pop out the Music CD and insert a blank CD, it says:

Blank Disc (O:)
No Disc (P:)

The upper right Burn window never changes no matter what I do. It
always says "Insert a blank CD".

Yet, when I click on [Start Burn] button, it pops out the O: Blank CD
and pops up the message:

"Please insert a blank disc in CD Drive (O:). Once Windows Media
Player detects the new disc, it will automatically start burning."

I put in another blank CD and close the drive tray. Windows pops up an
empty O:\ window alowing me to drag 'n drop files to blank CD. It too
says in the Details section "Blank Disc (O:)".

In the case that I've got something interferring, here's my
investigation findings:

On the O: Propeties page, I changed the AutoPlay action to be "Take No
Action" rather than "Prompt me each time" and it made no difference.

On the O: Propeties page, I checked [X] Enable CD recordingon this
drive.

On the O: Propeties page, I looked at the DLA tab which has a big
"SONIC" logo on it. The Version info says "ROXIO DLA", Version 5.2.0,
Build 520B08H (DLD).

I've tried NUMEROUS blank CD's. Nothing ever changes.

It's like the WMP detection and the CD Burn detection are disjointed.

I'm not sure what is wrong because I have tried many blank cds and I still
get the same message and my computer is having no trouble recognising it as a
blank cd only media player has a problem.
