You need to get out more, get some fresh air -- spend less time on the
computer :)

Apparently, you're making an assumption that the OP is being dishonest.
The OP stated that he checked to delete the files from his library only
and that they were deleted anyway. This would put the OP's issue in the
category of a bug or flaw rather than a "blunder".

Accidentally deleting your files (assuming only for the sake of argument
that, as you assumed, the user took steps inadvertently that were intended
to delete his files) is not a user error. User error would be to misspell
the track name when editing in ATE or accidentally clicking the song
adjacent to the intended song when selecting a song to play. Accidentally
deleting files is not user error, that is an application error. At best
it means that there weren't proper messages or warnings before deleting
the files. At worst, it could be a bug that deletes files even when you
tell it not to. According to the steps described by the OP, the
application deleted them in spite of being told specifically not to. When
applications are not easily used by the intended audience, that is a a
flaw in the user interface design.

Based upon Microsoft's own description of the application, as provided by
the Microsoft employee who used to post to this news group (but left
because the heat about WMP 11 got too hot for him), the goal of the WMP 11
product team was simplification of the user interface. So, either you are
smarter than the rest of us and are able to figure out all the things
those users who are not happy with WMP 11 can not or you're the simple
person that Microsoft targeted with its "simplification" and I am glad it
works for you.

Wow -- deleting your whole library -- you had to work at making a blunder
like that, guess it's easiest to blame Microsoft when you make such a
huge mistake -- sounds like user error to me :)

I recently downloaded media player 11 and I found it hard to search for
artist and the eye candy is too much. I went to delete the list of
songs
and I checked off delete Library only. Well, it deleted all my music
off my
hard drive. Thank got I have the CD. I know what i will be doing this
weekend.

Thanks Microsoft
