System Restore isn't anything from the WMP team. If it's not working,
something is wrong with your system. This may tie in to why a program newly
installed to your potentially corrupt system would not function effectively.
=) But speculation on the source is pretty irrelevant at this point--
It sounds like you really really need to refer to:
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#setup11
as pointed out. If it's failing at 87% or whatever, then hopefully your
setup log files should indicate that.
Given the wmfdist11.log / wmp11.log , that should point to a particular
problem with your system. Are there any
errors indicated there? I can try to parse them all for you, but there
should typically be pretty clear indicates at the end of those logs.
I'm probably the best person available to help you interpret those logs. So
let's focus on those. =)

That's funny... the only problem I've had began with WMP 11.....
WMP 10 was fine... and no other machine issues....Now at 87% install for
WMP11 the install dies.... I can't uninstall.... System Restore won't
restore.....ADD/Remove programs won't remove it.....and change OCX
filenames
in registry is useless.....
Oh yeah, easy answer ... Something must be wrong with your machine....
Funny thing is, I see other people having the same freakin' problem......
But oh yeah, must be a personal machine issue... Couldn't be the POS
player....
MS would never do that.....
If nothing else... they need to make it "NOT" so much part of the freakin'
system so that you can't get rid of it......
But you're right... there is something wrong with my machine
................ WMP11!
:-)

There's two uninstall mechanisms provides - System Restore and the normal
uninstall . If neither works, that should indicate something being
pretty
horribly wrong with your system that no software would have much ability
to
do much about. The calls to System Restore as documented on MSDN really
are
pretty straight-forward - if System Restore isn't functional...
something's
wrong, and that's not something wrong in WMP. =\

XP sp2.... can't install ... .can't uninstall........
Now it's screwing up other programs using WMP....
So much for the thorough testing of products before they go out....
Why do they have to make it freakin' impossible to uninstall?
I just kicked the dog I'm so pissed...(sorry pooch!)
