Re: No sound in WMP 10 & 11 for MPEG

Hi zachd
I did have a codec pack installed at one point but that was uninstalled
awhile ago (before I installed WMP 11). I checked to see if there were any
extra codes listed under Sound, video and game controllers in Device manager
but could only see the following:
Audio Codes:
imaadp32.acm
msadp32.acm
msg711.acm
msgsm32.acm
tssoft32.acm
msg723.acm
Windows Media Audio Codec
Sipro Lab Telecom Audio Codec
Indeo audio software
Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec
Microsoft PCM Converter
I am not sure which ones are supplied as standard on a system and which ones
are extra. Any ideas?
There are also entries for the following but I couldn't see anything there
that might be causing this problem.
AVerMedia Hybrid H/W MPEG Card, M115 (DVBT/NTSC/PAL/SECAM)
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Realtek High Definition Audio
Video Codecs
I also checked for any .ax files in windows/system folder and couldn't find
any there either.
Thanks for the response and for the link to your very useful website. Any
other help or suggestions would be greatfully received.
Cheers
Jason

What third party MPEG/MPEG2/DVD decoders/players/utilities do you have
installed? Those usually stomp on WMP's decoder.

Hi all
Ever since I upgraded to WMP 10 and now WMP 11 there has been no sound
when
playing MPEG files (MPEG-1 Layer 2 to be precise). Other file types play
audio (thus not simply mute enabled) and the MPEG files play in Media
Classic
and quicktime (thus no problem with the files themselves).
Gspot says that the MPEG-1 Layer 2 codec is installed correctly so I am at
a
loss. Anyone else have this problem or know of how I can get Microsoft to
check this out or how I can downgrade to WMP 9?
Cheers for your help.
Jason
