RE: Sound, but only 3 seconds of video

OK, so here's the latest update on this mysterious problem --

I just installed Windows Media Player 11, to see if it would fix the
problem. It didn't. I went back to my old laptop, which still has Player
version 9 on it, and tried to play the same video file and it worked just
fine!

So, these vids play find in WMP 9 and in MYDVD software, but don't play
properly in WMP 10, WMP 11, Windows Media Centre or RealPlayer.

HELP!

Sorry it's taken me so long to respond to this message.

As far as I'm aware, I didn't install anything new; However with automatic
updates, who knows?

I did notice that the same videos that play this way in Windows Media, also
play this way now in Real Player. They play normally in the WinDVD software
that came on my computer, though. Hmmmmmm

So that video gave you trouble when you tried viewing it too?

Did you install any Windows updates, or any software around the time videos
started giving you trouble? Did you install any video codecs?

The problem only started last week. The exact same videos played just fine,
before that.

I'm curious if this is a bug with Windows Media Player. Some systems seem to
have a similar problem and I am curious if it has to do with how WMP handles
MBR streams.

This link seems to go to a video which is encoded as a MBR stream (Multi
Bitrate)

Do you have the problem when you try to view this video?

Also, go somewhere like here: http://performance.toast.net/ and run a
bandwidth test. Post your results back up if you would.

Something really strange is going on with my Windows Media Player, lately.
It will play on about the first 3 seconds of video -- the green progress line
zooms from one side of the screen to the other in about 3 secs and the video
stops there -- but the sound continues to play.

I'm totally baffled.
