Re: WMP11 Beta 2 Some Song files won't play. DON'T UPGRADE TO THI

Zach, I purposely looked in the forum for this problem. I've been having the
same problem where sometimes my ID3 tags will simply disappear and yes, I
believe most of them were unicode tags (~90% of my library is in an East
Asian Language). It seems completely random what gets wiped though. Sometimes
it's the artist, sometimes the title, and sometimes the album. Even track
numbers get affected once in a while (I use iTunes to label, like track 01 of
10, it will take the 10 out). I'm assuming this is already a known problem?
Please don't forget to fix it. I don't know if there are patents or anything
involved but I really like iTunes labelling/sorting/renaming system, is that
implementable?

Also, it would be nice if I could set up sync files with my DAP BEFORE first
sync. I don't like having to config name and then it auto-syncing, and my
stopping the sync, remove things i don't want synced, then resyncing, just a
tad of a hassle. Also as well, maybe a sort of confirmation on deleting when
syncing when I remove something from library? That came as a suprise as I saw
"deleting" going down my sync list.

Well, a URL at whatever random file download service you want to use works
best for me. You can also send a copy to zachdms at hotmail dotty com and
usually that'll get to me.

Unicode is typically used for non-English character sets. Beta 2 made a
number of changes to Unicode Id3 handling, and this regression should just
occur within Beta 2 and not in later builds of WMP11 *if it's the issue I
think it is*. I can know pretty definitively by looking at the content in
question.

Hey, no worries, I totally respect anger/passion. As long as we can figure
out whether this is already fixed or needs to be, we both are going to be
happier here. =)

Zach, first, I'm not entirely sure what you mean by Unicode ID3. I know
that
the ID3 info is the tag, but what is Unicode ID3? The tags and files were
fine in all previous versions of WMP (including WMP11 Beta 1).

As far as concrete details, I'm not sure what more there is to say. The
files worked in Beta 1 and not in Beta 2 on two different computers.

Regarding a sample clip, where do I send it? I'll gladly send you one if
you tell me how.

As far as reproducing the issue goes, I'm not sure what to tell you. I
think I'd need to know why these 5 files aren't working in order to
reproduce
it. By the way, the files all work with Winamp as well with ID3 tags
intact.

And finally, there is someone else on this forum that sounds like they
have
the same problem (YShun, Post "Windows Media Player Beta 2" on 9/2/06).

By the way, Sorry about the angry tone. I was a little fed up that WMP
wasn't recognizing my songs all of a sudden, and I am hoping that it has
not
corrupted my files. Beta 1 had caused me no problems which is why I am
dissappointed so far in Beta 2. Thanks for your help.

Are they Unicode ID3 files?

The more concrete information you provide, the better. This post is
incredibly vague and contains no concrete details, which is very sad. If
you were the only person experiencing this issue (? you may be), you
would
never be able to get your issue fixed if you don't include details on how
to
reproduce the issue. A sample of a clip that fails would be tremendously
useful, for example.
