I have a capture device, Videoh!, that isn't working, but it doesn't offer
free support, they charge $199 for a support call! and when I try to email
in a question, they just say my free support time has lapsed. grrr.
I'm trying to understand my computer's setup and the whole video/WMM thing
before I go out and buy another capture device.
I'm not sure how much of this is specific to my computer, which, of course, I
don't expect others to be able to help with, and how much is generic to all
computers.
My computer clearly has analog input jacks. Those three RCA phone plugs are
labelled "Video", "L", and "R", just like my VCR, TV, and DVD players. And
the label on the computer under them says "Video 2 Input".
But when I go in to Manage Devices, and look under "Sound, Video and Game
Controllers", I'm not sure what to look for, or what to do when I find it.
I'm trying to find out what those three RCA jacks are connected to - is it a
card? what kind? Can I use it? How? Where's the documentation? At this
point, I'm kind of fumbling around in the dark.

You can get USB capture devices from various manufacturers (Pinnacle/Dazzle,.
D-Link, ...) that will grab video from VHS players. Windows Movie Maker may
be able to work with the captured content, but it won't talk to a VHS player
directly.

I'm trying to get started.
I have three plugs on my computer that look just like the plugs on my VCR
machine - yellow labelled "Video", red labelled "R", white labelled "L".
Right next to these three plugs is an input jack for S-video, and under
them
all is a line with the label "Video 2 input".
I would think that I could connect the three jacks with the corresponding
output jacks in my camcorder, but Windows MoveMaker tells me that it
cannot
detect a video capture device when my camcorder is connected and playing
a
tape.
Any suggestions? Do I need to buy another piece of hardware? There are
more connection jacks on my computer, as well as a jack for a cable
connection on my camcorder, which I use when I connect to my TV to see my
video on TV.
I don't know if I just need to keep trying different plug configurations
between the camera and the computer, or if I need to buy another piece of
hardware that will convert the analog signals coming from my camcorder
into
digital input that MoveMaker will recognize. Why have these
Red-White-Yellow
jacks on my computer, if it won't take input?
Many thanks
