Re: WMP 10 will NOT install - FULL STORY

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Yeah, that lets me know exactly what they did. You could actually optimize
that out into about four commands run from a command line if you did the
'expert optimization', but that'd just be the same thing you did.

That might work, and it's an interesting alternative, but it's also very
much unsupported and unsupportable since it deliberately misparses the INFs.
I respect whoever came up with that, and I can also instantly see why this
would not be something they would want to publicly document.

Thanks for the information - that's helpful to know.

Well the problem is solved with a 10 step process VERY WELL DOCUMENTED by
MS
- and in fact they had no intrest in the installation log file. I would
post
this rather simple (considering) solution but I was explicitly told NOT to
make available to the public , but I will "hint" here for you and you will
probale get the gist
The downloadable program seems to CHOKE on some security aspects and it
must
must be broken down(exploded) into indidual .INF files and each must be
installed separately (right click the INF and then click INSTALL)
After you do this there will be two files extracted when you exploded
out
the MP10Setup.exe file
one is SETUP_WM.EXE. You run this first which looks like the regular
install
file (after installing this you will still get an error) that WMP10 was
not
installed - you ignore that. THEN..you reboot and you run UNREGMP2.EXE
reboot and the just run WMP. Since the last install was an error you'd
expect
vs9 to come up but NO The Media player that shows now IS vs 10 !
Considering there is a very simple 10 step solution to this I wonder why
it
will not be posted on line , but who knows it may cause more problems than
it
solves for a lot of eople.
I thank you all for your time ,a dnfor those that still have a problem ..
THERE IS A 10 STEP SOLUTION sitting at MS.
