Hi. Is there anywhere that I can report album information that is missing
from metaservices.windowsmedia.com? I have a lot of dance CDs and 3 or more
(I can't remember exactly how many) of the 4 CD compilations I own are not on
the database, so I have to manually type in all of the track information
myself whenever I put the music back onto my computer (ie. after a format).
It's very annoying.
You could spend the rest of your life reporting missing or incorrect
information there. It's an old and unresolved issue.

You should backup your music files whether you are formating often or not.

I never really felt the need to back up because up until yesterday I'd had
no problems or the need to format.

Hardware fails, get stolen, burnt, or flooded.
Software is infected with viruses and spyware.
If anything, the potential for data-loss have only *grown* over the years.
The risk is yours.

I think it might be a good idea if Microsoft allow users to submit missing
album information and add a checkbox saying "This is incorrect" (or similar)
when you rip music so you could use the default Track N, Unknown Artist
information if it's not correct.

You can upload information using the Album Wizard. My assessment is that
its more likely to show up in the database if every track is misspelled
and the information is wildly wrong.

LOL !

Apparently it only takes a low number of identical submissions
[i.e.with the same typos !]. The chances of 3 separate people spelling
the tracks and artist correctly and precisely the same (inc.
capitalisation) are pretty much zero. So I guess that explains why
it's so hard to get *anything* to stick in the online DB.

The "official" (non user-submitted) database records come from AMG, CD
Japan and other sources. It seems to vary all the time, but the overall
quality seems to have declined over the last few years.
