Re: Training and education for developers for Window Media Platfor

Hmm again I have no real clues to offer about that. <g>

I'm in the UK. However I do know Asaf Shelly in Israel, he's another
digital media / directshow MVP, so you might try to contact him and
ask if he knows of anything locally. He's a helpful guy, and though I
can't see him personally providing training, it can't help to ask.

His website is : http://asaf.shelly.co.il and mentions among other
things "Multimedia solutions and services, Internet video streaming"

The site seems a little "broken" maybe it's just the English version,
so the contact page is http://asaf.shelly.co.il/Eng/Contact.html

Hi Neil,
Thank you for your prompt reply.
Actally I am more looking into training and education about creation and
hosting of WMV media with different types of compressions for streaming
abilities according to network bandwidth. I am a senior software engineer but
MCP & MCSE is not really what I need this purpose (maybe only few small
relevant parts).I need somthing more specific about Digital Media creation
methods (maybe DirectShow) for WMV format, and the hosting servers of this
media - pushing or pulling modules(I think it is called: "Windows Media
Server")

Thanks in advance
Eran

BTW - I'm located in Israel, and you? ;-)

Hi,
Does Microsoft has trainings or education seminars, for developers, for
Window Media Platform?

I'm pretty sure there will be seminars here and there, but they're not
formal certifications and I guess you want something like MCSE or MCP
qualifications on your CV.

I can't actually think of anything specific, though I don't usually
look at formal training to see what's available. In general digital
media is the term you want to search for, and not a lot of specifics
came up on google with MCP and MCSE in the results.

A lot of the results too were focused more on the editing and content
creation side of digital media eg
http://www.training-classes.com/course_hierarchy/companies/887_Microsearch.php

So I think given that this is likely to be a cross-discipline area,
you might want to consider a combination of certifications.

Stuff I think would be relevant would be on this shopping list :

..NET MCP - would get you the background needed to script and create
programmatic tools on the server, and to some extent help with web
site creation linked to distribution

In addition, most of the DRM creation stuff would probably be done in
..NET I suppose,

Windows Server 2003 MCSE would probably get you the background in
Networking, Systems Admin (clustering, backup and failover etc) in
addition WS2003 is where you'd operate your windows media services

As a systems engineer you'd be in the position of managing clustered
servers and distribution servers, which will need a good appreciation
of networking and domain management for your content delivery network.
You might also want some level of training in SQL server or similar,
so you can set up a content management system for your media.

And pretty much critically, you'll want an element of systems security
in there so an MCSE in security would be a good start.

Since it's an interesting enough question, I'll ask around and see if
anybody at MS or the MVPs know of a specific course which might help.I
guess it would be useful to know which part of the world you're in too
;-)

In the meantime, this article on the MCSE site migt be of interest :
