How to add a new codec to Windows Media Player

Hi
I posted a question to "microsoft.public.windowsmedia.server"
newsgroup, but I wonder if this is a better place for my enquiry. I
have done a lot of search online and haven't been able to find anything
useful yet.
Basically I want to integrate my own C++ MPEG-4 (and H.264) encoder
and decoder into the standard world of Microsoft WIndows Media
platform. Right now I use my own Windows based video player, and
connect directly to the encoder server to get the stream. I have no
experience in developing application for Windows Media Player and am
not sure if what I want to do is possible, but I think I should be able
to add a new decoder the Media Player, and also publish the output of
my encoder to the Windows Media Server. I probably need to change my
decoder to make it compatible with WMP, but I'm willing to take on the
task and learn what's needed. Any help, or pointer to where I should
start from, will be greatly appreciated. My post to the other group is
attached.
Thanks in advance,
Mani

Hi
I am new to the world of video streaming, and am not sure if this is
the right place to ask this question. If not, please guide me to the
right newsgroup.
I have a nonstandard MPEG-4 encoder and right now I encode the video
(from various sources) and send it through sockets to client machines,
with nonstandard decoder and video player. I want to make the video
available to others through Windows Media Server. Is it possible to
package the encoded video for streaming? What do I have to do? On the
client side how do I enable Windows Media Player to run my decoder?
Many thanks for your help,
Mani
