Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Well, since I don't know what mmswitch.ax is, I assume not. I haven't tried
to upgrade DivX yet, I'll let you know if it makes a diff.

Thanks, Brent

A: Ah, yeah. DivX... you'll get a little randomness there. If that
upgrade
doesn't help - is mmswitch.ax on your system?

B: WMP10 does not support Windows 2000, no.

Under Application Log there is a Catagory column, but it lists 'None'
usually, never the word 'bucket.' I do see Errors about 25 seconds
apart
listing the source as Microsoft Windows Media Player and the Event as
1000.

The file is an .avi (divx) file. Just occured to me I haven't checked
for
a
more recent Divx plugin for a few months.

If this has you stumped, just accept my sincere thanks for your interest
and
I'll try MS Support proper. But maybe you can answer my question about
installing version 10? It doesn't list my OS, but the 'Encountered a
Problem' error message says I don't have the latest version which is
9.00.00.3250. The download page doesn't list the actual version number,
but
I downloaded 9 a week ago and wound up with the same version number.

Thanks, Brent

Is there a second entry? Those sometimes take a bit to show up. But
it's
possible that Win2000 may not have those second much more useful
entries.
"Bucket" is the category your crash shows up under. This assembles mos
t
relevant information together which makes problem research that much
simpler.

The #bucket problem: it's a fairly large page, so sometimes old
browsers
don't like skipping to the relative link.

That's unfortunate that more info isn't available...

What file are the "TV files"? Is this crash occuring for any other
file
types?

If I understood your instructions I found an information type (!)
with
the
source Winlogon and an event #1002. I still don't get what "bucket"
means.
But there was only one entry and no red error marker. Odd?

Also, when this happens I loose all my icons in the bottom right tray
except
for McAfee. Requires a reboot.

If I try to play the offending file straight from my download
software
(which does not produce a thumbnail) then I get the Windows Media
Player
has
encountered an unknown error ect. That does not wipe out my icons.

By the way, your link went to a whole page of stuff before I replaced
the
last word with "bucket". Works now, tho. Also odd?

Nope, there's a much easier method- just post the crash bucket
information
if you can:

Now Playing: "Here Comes the Pain [Low B Clubshot Blend]" by "Johnny

I've been trying to get Roxio software going without luck so I
deleted
it.
I think it left something over.

When I try to play certain downloaded files (a TV show) on WMP the
program
closes and generates a Dr. Watson error message. In fact, I can't
even
use
explorer to look at the file to check properties because when the
thumbnail
comes up, the same thing happens.

I have up to date hardware and drivers running Windows 2000 Pro
SP4
Nvidia
5200 and Player 9 the newest. The send error message also says I
don't
have
the latest version, but I thought 10 was only for XP.

Should I post the error log? It's pretty big.

Thanks, Brent
