You are correct I have never bought content from a music service using
WMP.

I could not find the folder C:\documents and Settings\All Users\DRM
I found the All Users subdirectory but there was no folder named DRM.

Please advise.

Rename the folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM
to
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM.bak
.... are you then able to start the player?

If not, we'll want to start hand-registering DRM files until we find out
what's being cranky here...

broken.
Have
you bought purchased content... ? You could theoretically nuke
your
DRM
store and probably get going again, but that's pretty drastic if

any directly-paid-for content.

I hade to reinstall XP due to a system crash and after the
reinstall
WMP
has
never worked. When I tried to open WMP9 an error window opens
with

following: "Windows Media Player is not installed properly and

reinstalled. Do you want to install the Player from the
Microsoft
Web
Site?",
I answer yes. I am then taken to the WMP download page to
download
WMP10.
All
attempts to install fail after this point.

I have noticed this same error when trying to upgrade WMP9
from
within
WMP
itself. It has happened on many systems since the release
of
WMP10
and
each
time the setup log shows the same error. I tested it again
a
couple
days
ago
on my personal system and it still happens. I have deduced
that
it
is
ultimately due to System Restore. The log file shows that
the
setup
tries
to
delete the temporary wmsetup.exe file (from the Windows
temp
folder)
and
is
unable to, due to it still working on creating a System
Restore
point.
The
setup then errors out without performing a few other steps.
I
am
not
sure
how
important these extra steps are as they are vaguely
described
and
WMP
actually gets upgraded to version 10.

You can upgrade successfully if you do one of the
following:
Disable System Restore (not recommended)
Upgrade using Windows Update (it is listed under optional
components)
Upgrade using the standalone setup from the web site
(recommended
since
it
is a newer version than the one from the integrated updater
and
Windows
Update).
