Sound Device = modem???

Hey webbers,
I have a popular problem, and tried most all solutions:
P: no sound, WMP, code D11ba, orange exclamation points in Wma,
no Adio device.. Volume control in startmenu/ system tray. also having
problems with the USb's- thats why i thought it was a chipset driver problem,
( could it still be?)
Attempted solutions:
I have downloaded all the appropriate drivers, all the chipset drivers, and
installed all the audio codecs, but they will not be received by the CPU,
My sound video and game options show the duplex modem as the only one, I had
previously uninstalled them each to try and locate the problem but was unable
to get them back
