Video clips in webpages stopped working

The wmv video clips embedded in webpages show the Windows Media logo in
the box, but the controls are ghosted. Right-clicking on error details
it says, "The source filter for this file could not be loaded."
Clicking the more help button the page says this, "Windows Media Player
Error Message Help. You've encountered error message 80040241 while
using Windows Media Player. We are investigating the cause of this
error. We will post more information about this error when it becomes
available."

I looked around the Microsoft site and installed a couple of the
programs that said they'd install codecs, but I still can't view video
clips in webpages.
