Re: Media services - cannot connect to media from internet

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hello Neil,
Thank you for your response. I have tried so many things to try to get this
to work with limited success. Initially, I could not connect to any of the
publishing points at all (internally or externally). I did some research and
found that I would not be able to connect to the publishing point within my
LAN unless I changed my mms://mycomputer/test (to my local IP address)
mms://192.168.0.100/test. After make this change, I could connect to the
publishing point from the LAN. As you have suggested, I had previously made
the change for the external IP (which has now changed because I replaced my
cable modem) to read mms://24.150.63.106/test but this does not work. I have
now changed the modem (which changed my IP), I have also added a new router
which in turn again changed my IP. Now the funny thing is, previously without
the router, I HAD to use the internal IP address of the server so I could
connect to it from a machine on the LAN. Since the addition of the router, I
am able to change it to the public IP (24.150.63.106) and I can access it
from the LAN but I am trying it from a different location and as I stated in
my previous posting:
The page opens with the embedded media player and the status shows:
“Connecting to media” for a short time and then changes to “Locating media…”
and then “Ready” but the video does not play. If I click the play button,
the same dialog repeats with no content.
If I open the “stand-alone” media player, I get “Connecting to media”,
“Locating media…” and then a pop box that states “Windows Media Player
cannot connect to the server. The server name might not be correct, the
server might not be available or your proxy settings might not be correct.
