Re: Ok, so this WMP and IE error

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

OK well reinstalling should have re-registered the media player codecs
so I can't see that being an issue.

Usually you'd see an error message of some sort - as long as it isn't
a blue screen then some other component must be damaged. If you know
the error message and it's reproducible, it's time to post it here -
the error code (eg similar to 0xC00D1029) would also be of help in
tracking this down.

The easiest step now might be to determine if it's down to hardware
acceleration - the graphics card and / or sound card might have
issues. So I'd go to the WMP menu, Tools->Options->Performance.

First turn the slider right down, play the content and see if it still
crashes. If it does, restart the player and hit the 'Advanced' button.

Write down the settings there so you can reset them later.

Try turning off the 'Use video mixing renderer', have another go, then
turn off all the buttons in the Legacy video renderer bit if it still
isn't stable.

If none of those are working, reset the values to what you noted. Now
it's time to try the audio acceleration - this is in Control Panel
under Sounds & Multimedia. It differs per sound card, on mine I can
select the 'Audio' tab, then the 'Advanced' button. The Performance
tab has a slider for 'Hardware acceleration' again try that at minimum
and OK it before starting the player.

If none of that works, the next step would be to reinstall DirectX
which takes longer than the above and might need a reboot : From here

If it still aint working, we really do need the error number !

Cheers - Neil
