The rel notes are about WMV9 hardware decoding and
scaling/deinterlacing. The latter should be transparently
performed in hardware or by the driver and the former is not
related to the VMR9 (which is a video renderer and not the
WMV9 decoder) so, unless I'm missing something, the software
upgrade from MS nVidia is talking about is not related to
the VMR9 (or to WMP even).

Maybe they are talking about a new WMV9 decoder that uses
their hardware decoding acceleration but, even if MS could
provide it for them, I can't see why they are not writing it
themselves like other companies which produce WMV9 hardware
decoders do (e.g. SigmaDesigns, but not with Windows
drivers) and like they already do for MPEG1/2 decoding.
