    Just to be sure you're set up right :

    If you go to Tools->Options and pick the devices tab, you should see
    your CD/DVD player(s) listed. If you click the Properties button, is
    the Playback 'Digital' and Copy 'Digital' and the error correction
    checkbox checked for both ? And it's the same for any other CD drive
    you have ?

    Just a thought cause analog CD playback goes over a cable to your
    sound card, and you can get all sorts of awful crosstalk between say
    the microphone or line-in plugs if they're not muted in your sound
    controls.
