Using the mms:// prefix assures compatibility with older media players. The
streaming server will negotiate the best protocol for the client, or at
least that's what Microsoft claims. :)
It's also a deprecated protocol and I've heard rumblings that it won't work
with WMP11 (haven't verified myself.) Either http or rtsp are the preferred
protocols.
believe that when talking to WMP11, the streaming server uses RTSP by default,
regardless of the url prefix.
