From what I researched and tried with Windows Server 2003 SP1 MediaServices, Windows Media Server only serves WMA and WMV file based content.
Is this correct?
And MP3s, broadly that's it. The WMS has an ASF parser to handle the
WMV/WMA streams, I'm not aware of any open source facility for
providing alternate parsers, though I'm sure somebody could write one
over time.
What are my options for streaming DivX and XviD AVI files?
I'd invesitgate videolan VLC to transcode the DivX MPEG4 stream /
packetisation into WMV over rtsp or http. Still to do this experiment
(see a few posts ago) but I'm pretty sure it would work.
Another alternative is Darwin streaming server to Quicktime or Real
Player clients.
