If one copies a VOB file from a physical mastered DVD to the local hard drive
it will not play using WMP. This is supported behaviour and it doesn't seem
to be limited to protected disks:

However, as noted many times in this very forum, if one changes the file
extension of this copied VOB file from .vob to .mpg it WILL play correctly
using WMP.
Therefore, I don't understand your response at all.

Is there a way to play VOB files copied from a DVD to the
HD using the WMP ActiveX control WITHOUT changing the
file extensions to .mpg?
WMP doesn't care about file extensions.
