Save Current Play Time

Is there a way in Media Player to save the current play time and,
ideally, be able to start again at same point later on? A native
option or a plug-in option?
I am even open to using another Player if it has this feature.
I have downloaded a lot of podcasts (self learning content) off the
web to my TabletPC (i.e. from www.dotnetrocks.com, www.hanselminutes.com,
etc.). Some audio files (shows) take about 1 hour to complete and
there are a lot of times when I can only listen to part of a show and
have to listen to the rest of the show at a later time. When this
happens I hit the pause button and leave Media Player up. This works
until the TabletPC goes into sleep or hibernate mode then the next
time it wakes up the Media Player is still running but it returns back
to the beginning of the show. Of course this happens all the time,
which is why I am hoping there is a way to save the current play time.
The workaround, I got, is to use OneNote and manually make a note of
the show and current play time. (What a hassle!!!)
Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated. I would not be
adverse to researching and writing my own plug-in, but I have to
believe other people have run into this problem already and have an
elegant solution.
