Re: Pre-authorizing content at point of sale

That last line should read "NOT clear". In particular, I
don't see how the user would pass their machine's unique
id to the server. Or how the pre-authorization could be
implemented through the SDK.

My understanding of the WMRM architecture is the following:

1. a device has a cache of licenses for each media
2. a license is either pre-delivered or, when a protected
media is played and a matching valid license is not found in
the cache, a license is requested from the licensing server
specified in the media itself over the internet and the
license is cached
3. when a protected media is transferred from one device to
another, a license is transfered along with it (I am not
sure about this)

Step 2 is accomplished using the WMRM SDK on the server side
(the client side is implemented by the device). Step 3 may
be implemented by the MTP SDK or whatever, I never
investigated it.

If I understand your scenario, the user somehow connects its
device to your kiosk and buys the media and you want to
provide a license for it at the same time. Depending on how
you plan on letting the user connect its device, you may be
able to run a licensing server on the kiosk itself an
pre-deliver the license (pre-delivery requires the user to
visit a certain web page). This assumed the connection is
IP-based (local network, not internet), the device has web
capabilities and the media is acquired through those web
capabilities. Or you might want to investigate the MTP SDK.
