Audio level vb.net

Does anyone know if there is a way to get an audio level in vb.net with the
windows medis encoder 9? I know the Getaudiolevel is not implemented in the
sdk. But is there another way? I really need to show the level while I'm
encoding the file. Is it possible with a DirectShow filter or anything. Any
examples would be very helpful!
