How extensible is Media Player anyway?

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I've been using WinAmp forever and really don't know what Media Player is really capable of. I thought I had it all covered with WinAmp; skins, targeted URLs, Bookmarks and immediate access to select programming from the Bookmark window.

Media Player user interface seems difficult to use and but for skins is apparently not very extensible or I'm presuming it would have become immediately known to me by observing what others would have done. So am I compelled to conclude I could not put my own controls onto the user interface of a skin of my design? Is this misguided?
