Suppressing WMP prompts programmatically

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I have embedded a WMP in my VB.Net application, and I play different file
formats in it. On some formats, it will ask a question "The selected file
has an extension that is not recognized by Windows Media Player, but the
Player may still be able to play it....etc." How can I suppress this prompt
so that when users install my software, they will never see this popup
message.

I am assuming that the WMP object I have embedded in my application does not
use the same settings as the WM Player on a users system, correct?

TIA,
