Disabling Overlays (ala Windows Media Player) for Windows Media Encoder 9

In two places in software I am capturing a still from a playing video.
In one place, it is on recorded video playback. In this case, I turned
off Overlays in the advanced performance settings of windows media
player, and I capture the graphics context of the window and chop out
the image. This works super fast and exactly how I want it.
I need to do the same thing with a WMEncPreview window. I am capturing
the area of the window I need for the image, BUT, as when I had not
disabled overlays in Media Player, the images are pure black.
Basically, I need to know this...
How can I disable overlays for the encoder. I checked the custom
profile I am using and there are no options to disable overlays. Is
there some call I can make of the IWMEncoder to disable overlays? Is
there some other way of grabbing an image capture of current live
video from a preview window? What other ways can I go about this?
